Paul Milgrom, Nobel prize in economics laureate

He has argued for fundamental changes in the rules on how to distribute precious resources through auctions. Thanks to his work we can also make phone calls, surf the internet and redistribute water or emission permits. He got into scientific world almost entirely by accident - as a student he did not attend a physics class because it was too early, protested against the war in Vietnam and was sentenced to ten days on a work crew.
