Natalya Gorbanevskaya, a courageous woman who with seven others took part in the 1968 Red Square demonstration against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia. She was incarcerated, declared to be of unsound mind and locked up in a psychiatric hospital. After her release, she became involved in protests against Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s deportation from the USSR and against the use of psychiatric facilities to torture political prisoners.
