The truth about the miracle of Čihošť will never come to light all the more opportunity for filmmakers to apply their imagination.The drama from the 1950s is set in an isolated village in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The local policeman is writing his regular required report, and as he does not want to hurt anyone by mentioning minor offences, he decides instead to mention the miracle that occurred in church, when the crucifix moved during the last sermon. He has no idea of what this will bring about. The secret policeman who comes to investigate the case accuses the priest of having stage-managed the alleged miracle himself in order to boost the power of the church against the state, and he decides to get a confession out of him at any cost. Moreover he instructs a successful young film director to shoot a true documentary film about the event. There is no refusing, and so the young film director decides to get the unwanted task over with as soon as possible. But on arriving at the village he finds so much obscurity, so many discrepancies surrounding the event that he cannot make the film. He would like to resolve this odd mystery and come up with an honest piece of filmmakers work, but under the supervision of the State Police his work becomes more and more of a politically manipulated pamphlet.
