HOMAGE TO SAINT CECILIA

Pocta svaté Cecilii

The concerts by Jiří Stivín, the well-known Czech multi-instrumentalist, offer the combination of a wonderful artistic experience and a good dose of humour. The concert titled Homage to St. Cecilia, held by Jiří Stivín with his musician friends in the magnificent Dvořák Hall of Prague’s Rudolphinum was dedicated to St. Cecilia, the patron saint of musicians. Czech Television broadcast it live, and the concert was divided into three parts. The first part was devoted to Baroque music by Teleman, Vivaldi and Bach and played by Collegium Quodlibet. The second part of the concert, which could be called a magnificent improvisation or – even better – a collage of music themes, is very effective musically and combines jazz, Baroque and the classics right down to elements of contemporary music. The whole concert´s finale consists of a 25-minute documentary film about St. Cecília. We visit Rome, where she spent her life and where is buried, but also various places in the Czech Republic that are consecrated to her name. Please note: each of these sections can be broadcast separately.
