THE PRAGUE CHAMBER BALLET

Pražský komorní balet

The independent ensemble appearing under the name “The Prague Chamber Ballet” has been maintaining its position on the top rungs of the ladder in its genre, not only within the Czech Republic but on a world scale as well, for more than 25 years. Pavel Šmok, its founder and still active choreographer – by the way highly appreciated and respected by Jiří Kilián, the world-famous choreographer of Czech descent - has brought humour and amusing exaggeration into what is traditionally regarded as “serious” art. While preserving the high professional standard of his dancers, he applies the principle of constant search for novel ways of expression and is not afraid to go against well-established traditions. The purpose of this programme is to show where The Prague Chamber Ballet is now and where it aims at, and to present the choreographic work of Pavel Šmok as well as his pupils and successors – Petr Zuska and Libor Vaculík. Each of them briefly presents his programme, and all provide the viewer with an insight into the atmosphere of rehearsals and preparations for their performances.
