Catalogue of Czech Television Programmes
The one-act radio opera composed in 1935 by Bohuslav Martinu is a ballad with a happy end, the love story of a village girl. However, this plane of the libretto is only one layer of the poetic work. The fairy-tale grows into a metaphor, we feel a strong surrealist inspiration and perceive human naivety to be an expression of subconscious yearning, and the balladic story a dream. The film production aims at expressing all these layers through the form of a poetic collage.
