SARVAMANGALAM

Sarvamangalam

A film essay about a journey through the Himalayas to the most holy spot in India–the source of the River Ganges. The film offers fascinating testimony to the life and thinking of Indian holy men–the sadhus–who here, in the highest Himalayas, attempt to draw closer to God. Special yoga techniques allow them to survive with little food and almost no clothing in areas completely cut off from the world where winter temperatures reach -40ºC. The extremely hard living conditions, however, are in sharp contrast to the solitude, calm, and positive energy which can be found in this region. The sadhus also demonstrate that, using our will alone, the intellectual stereotypes and physical barriers which limit possibility may be transcended.
