An acted documentary film about two ten-year-old Czech boys travelling up the North River in the virgin landscapes of Alaska. 1. North River - the boys guides on their adventurous expedition are their father, a scientist, and their grandfather, who has been living in Alaska for many years. In addition to the magnificent natural world the film also features animals whose habitat this region is. The boys even manage to pan a few flakes of gold at the former gold occurrence sites. 2. The Log Cabin at Lake Taylor - in the second part of the trilogy, the boys are parted for a time from their father, whose duties as natural scientist have called him away. Granddad makes up for their fathers absence by taking the boys for trips to the nearest town, then to a farm where team-dogs are trained, and finally the threesome sets out far into the mountains to repair a hunting cabin. They arrive at this log cabin after a long journey through the untouched wilds. The boys love it here but only until Granddad has a serious accident. An old iron trap snaps closed and breaks his leg. Blood poisoning is setting in swiftly, and the old mans life is in danger. The boys must bring him back to civilization as soon as possible - without any outside help at all. 3. In the Footsteps of the Gold-diggers in the final part of the trilogy. The boys set out with their father in the wake of the men who had succumbed to the so-called gold fever of the late 19th century. Granddad lends them his great-grandfathers diary with its description of that very same journey. Thus the boys have the opportunity to compare the present-day likeness of the gold-diggers trail to their ancestors description.
