A story set in contemporary times about a young woman who returned from exile in order to begin a new life back at home. But the past can never be completely deleted. Renata fled to France shortly before the Velvet Revolution of 1989 without really understanding why. When the communist regime in Czechoslovakia came to an end, Renata remained in Paris, struggling on as best she could. She studied to become a journalist and only returned several years later, convinced she was coming home for good. But Renata found neither her friends open arms nor the dear old places she knew so well. Moreover, her fathers past with the State Police and his present involvement with communist-mafia circles keep complicating her life. Renata falls in love with a young man from a former aristocratic family, but they are definitely not people willing to tolerate her origin. When the truth is brought to light, the result is yet another broken relationship. Even though her father dies soon afterwards, Renata realizes that she will have to live with his past for ever, and that she simply has to come to terms with it. The important thing, however, is the fact that her conscience is clear.
