THE SLEEPING BEAUTY

Šípková Růženka

A contemporary family series, telling the story of a young woman who has decided to take her life into her own hands. Its name is evocative of the well-known fairy tale about the awakening of a sleeping princess. However, no-one believes in fairy tales any more. And so Rose is not a princess but a modern woman who has not quite fallen asleep but has only lost zest for life after the divorce of her first marriage. At first it seems that her new, unexpected relationship with a notable man will be quietly idyllic. But fairy tales indeed do not happen nowadays. Therefore Rose has to come fully awake and surprisingly enough, she does and she enjoys it. She discovers unsuspected energy and abilities in herself, which nobody would have ever thought possible. She starts a small business of her own, and is doing excellently. While her husband, once so influential and successful, loses his footing, Rose reaps one success after another and attracts general admiration. But let us remind ourselves once again that this is not a fairy tale: success goes hand in hand with envy and misunderstanding, managing a business is a hard job and sometimes one even needs to be rather ruthless and pushy. In real life there are no princess who come riding a white horse, and there is little fertile soil for selfless friendship. Or could it be that something has survived of the fairy-tale world after all, and faithful love has a chance to triumph?
