This existential sci-fi film from veteran director Jaromil Jireš depicts the clash between old and young battled out within one body. The story itself begins with an emergency. An old professor, driving home late in the evening from a party celebrating her seventieth birthday, hits Yvetta, a pretty if not too intelligent young woman. And so it happens that two nearly dead women find themselves in the same operating room. A risky surgical procedure, till then only tested on animals, is to save their lives. But the next morning only one of them wakes up: young Yvetta with the brain and consciousness of a life-weary professor.
