CONCERTINO PRAGA

Concertino Praga

Television recording of a concert given by the laureates of the Concertino Praga international radio competition of young musicians, held every year under the aegis of the European Broadcasting Union. The competition has a long traditions - it was first held in 1966. It is designed in three-year cycles, each comprising a number of alternating categories: piano–violin–cello; flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, French horn; and chamber ensembles with up to five players. Last year the jury assessed a large number of piano, violin and cello recordings entered for the contest through the agency of state or public radio organizations. The main prize went to the fifteen-year-old German cellist Ralf-Andreas Stürzinger, a pupil of professor Gotthard Popp at the Music College in Detmold. In the piano category, Konstantin Shamrai of Russia shared the first prize with Jie-Hua Zhu, a Chinese national living in Germany, and the first prize in the violin category was shared by the Canadian Jing Wang and Leticia Muňoz from Spain. The young soloists were accompanied by the Symphonic Orchestra of Czech Radio under the baton of Ondřej Kukal. The concert took place in the Rudolfinum concert hall in Prague on the 14th of June, 2001, and was relayed by 21 radio stations – EBU members.
