World Music Day with Albert Requant and Catalan Television Barcelona
Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 11:00, in the Small Hall at Žofín
World Music is a relatively young and for that very reason a very dynamically developing genre in the sphere of music in general. That is why this year for the second time the Golden Prague International Television Festival is devoting one of its accompanying programmes to this very interesting and highly varied area of music. It is a great honour for us that our invitation has been accepted by an outstanding specialist highly regarded world-wide in the field of world music, Mr Albert Reguant. He is a regular participant in specialised conferences of the WOMEX festival and the EBU workshops on world music. For a number of years he worked as an author and director with Catalan radio and in particular with Catalan television, which devotes a relatively substantial portion of its broadcasts to alternative, ethnic and world music. Not only has he presented immensely fascinating Catalan folk music in his programmes, but he has also pointed out various other influences which have helped shape that music, whether those influences be Sephardic, Spanish or even Arabic. And Catalan television has gone even further in its offerings by introducing in a cycle called Music of the World folk and other world music from a number of countries all over the earth. The opportunity to meet this man is more than just enticing. We will learn about the relationship of the media to world music and about how this music is currently developing, but even more importantly we will see and hear some magnificent samples such as those from the Hidrogen, Planeta Música and Músiques del Món cycles.
