Canal 22 is a public TV broadcaster founded in 1993 which is nationally recognized for it's cultural programming, and depends directly on financing from the Mexican Ministry of Culture. Today Canal 22 broadcasts on the UHF band in Mexico City free tv and to the whole country by various cable services.
Canal 22 has received a number of awards for its cultural programming, including the National Journalism Prize in Mexico and the UNESCO Camera Prize for the best cultural programming on a TV channel.
At present, about 50 % of Canal 22's programs are acquired while 45 % are own produced programs and 5 % are based on different agreements with government branch offices and cooperating companies. Canal 22 is engaged in the diffusion of culture and the cultural agenda in Mexico and all over the world, in fine arts, in the servicing of public information and the diffusion of new different technologies.
In 2004, Canal 22 launched its international channel that is seen in the United States of America by Satellite and Direct TV. There's a project to launch a signal that could cover the whole Latin American region.
In spite of Canal 22's relatively young age of 15, we have grown a lot to match the preferences of our audience. We are enthusiastic and confident in believing that Canal 22 nowadays is situated firmly in our audience's mind and will grow more due to its special personality.
