Mr Šimerda has been cooperating with Czech Television as a director for many
years. Past two years he worked as an Artistic director of National Opera in Brno.
He was a member of the main Jury at 38th ITF Golden Prague this year.
Tomáš Šimerda was born in 1952, he graduated from Conservatory in Prague (sing)
and Academy of Music Arts in Prague (opera director). Mr Šimerda is a significant
television director specialised on music for TV screen, especially classical music.
He was awarded many times for his work (i.e.: four times at ITF Golden Prague
in 1988, 1997, 2000 and 2001). Many of Šimerda's television programmes has been
broadcasted by foreign television stations. As a Director he took part in coproductions
project of Czech Television, he worked in TV studios in Austria and Switzerland.
There are hundreds of programmes in Czech Television's archive whose director
is Tomáš Šimerda.
Mr Šimerda's the most important project for Czech Television is "Greek
Passions". This project arouse from coproduction with Slovenian Television
and was realised in authentic Mediterranean environment. Music base was a record
from Supraphon with prominent English soloists in music study by Sir Charles Mackerras.
"Greek Passions" was awarded by "Diploma for participation in the
final" at prestigious competition Vienna TV Award held by IMZ.
Tomáš Šimerda has been a Director of TV record of many prominent music events,
i.e.: Prague concerts of Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo. He realised many
music documents and portraits of principal artistic characters (i.e.: American
sopranos Barbara Hendricks).
Occasionally he returns to his original profession, an opera director. He realised
a number of opera sets in various Czech theatres. In past two years, while he
was an Artistic director of National Opera in Brno, he created opera sets of G.
Verdi "Don Carlos" and L. Janáček "Macropulos Case" with well
know sopranos Gabriela Beňačková as Emilie Marty. He was also a director of live
transmition of first night of this opera.
