The
film Wild Bees, in which you play the main female role, was filmed in
the area of Rýmařov, in the countryside where life is not exactly all
champagne and roses. How did the surroundings affect you during the filming?
In the beginning I had problems with it; I even wanted to leave. I had
a feeling of unfairness towards the people who live there. But after a
month of filming I understood that they are happy and that I don’t have
the right to judge, which type of life, be it mine, or someone else’s,
is better. But at the beginning I was, to put it mildly, melancholic,
it really got me down.
The film is, among other things, about the predetermined
fate of the local people, the conditions in which they grew up. Do you
also have the feeling that the environment of your childhood and youth
had a determining influence on you?
It‘s difficult to say. I grew up in the housing estates, which is not
exactly an environment that would predestine me to the acting field. So,
that probably doesn’t always completely hold - if a person is strong,
financially strong as well, they can do all sorts of things. Only, the
truth is that in this place, where Wild Bees was filmed, there is almost
one hundred percent unemployment, and with that it practically ends.
Can you bring yourself to imagine today that you
could have been something other than an actress?
Not only can I bring myself to imagine it, I still think that I will sometime
do something else. But it is possible that I will end up just like some
old people who, from their sixties onwards, every day insist that they
will not be here much longer, and then live peacefully until their nineties.
Maybe I will only say it.... but I would like to try something else. With
acting a person perhaps messes around a little bit too much with everything.
So, when the time comes when I feel I am in over my head, I would like
to try to live by my hands. Perhaps there will come a time, and it comes
to everyone, that I will not have enough work and I will have to market
myself, let an agency represent me who would make me to take this or that,
I would rather look around for something else. Or perhaps leave - somewhere
to learn something new.....
For now, you can always choose a role that suits
your tastes?
They are fatter periods, when I can choose what I like: the story, poetry,
director with whom I would like to work, or acting partners. And there
are leaner periods, when I have to think about paying the rent and telephone.
But at least one of these aspects must be there.
What do you have ahead of you right now?
In addition to the launch of Wild Bees in the cinemas, I have started
rehearsing Mr. Hamilkar in Rokoko, in television will be a film with the
director Václav Křístka, the fairy tale From the Family Album. That is
until January. Next year I have a role in Theatre Švanda, I have one script
from Czech Television and in the fall I should shoot the television film
City without Breath with Ivan Pokorny.
How has Tatiana Vilhelmová changed - let’s say -
from Whisper (Šeptej) At that time you were with everything, and in everything,
enthusiastic, happy...
I think I am still happy. Not much has changed. Only now, everything doesn’t
go straight to my head so, and I know that I must tend to my personal
life a good deal. And that I have friends that are enormously important
to me, from a completely different world than the one in which I work. |
