The traditional Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště, in fact a combination of a film school and festival, took place between 25 July and 2 August 2008.

The opening ceremony took place in Hvezda Theatre on 26 July and was attended by the President of the Council of the Czech Film Club Association (Rada Asociace českých filmových klubů; AČFK) Petra Korč and the Artistic Director of AČFK Pavlel Bednařík. The AČFK annual prizes were awarded as part of the ceremony.

Libor Karásek, the Mayor of Uherské Hradiště presented to Juraj Jakubisko the 2008 Annual AČFK Prize for Lifetime Achievement for his contribution to Czechoslovak cinema and for developing the New Wave poetics in his highly sovereign work.

The ceremony was then followed by screening of Bathory, presented to its audience by six of its makers and main cast members including the Producer of the picture, actress Deana Jakubisková – Horváthová.
